How About Them Apples?
03-23-06

Okay, I have a new favorite board game! And, well, I am going to advertise a bit for it. :) It's called Apples To Apples and it's pretty much one of the most chill board games ever. Here are the rules:

Everyone picks up 7 cards with nouns on them. These nouns can range from famous people (Dolly Parton, Judge Judy), events (Wimbledon, Watergate), objects (Snow, DVD Player), other people (My Friends, NYPD), actions (First Kiss, Starting A New Job), etc. So the point: they are so random!

Then, everyone takes turns playing the "judge", and picks one card with an adjective on it (Pretty, Rich, Natural) and everyone else has to anonymously put down a noun card that they feel like relates to that adjective. Then, the judge reads all of the nouns and picks the one that s/he thinks fits the adjective the best. And whoever put down that noun card gets a point.

The trick is, not only do you have a limited number of nouns to choose from, but also you have to figure out which the JUDGE would think represents that adjective the most. So, it's a bit like... how well do you know what your friends think about things?

Anyways, so how does this all relate to my diaryland page? Well, during Karen's birthday festivities, a group of 8 of us played this game. When I was the judge, I picked the adjective "Overwhelming":

I was overwhelmed just thinking about what nouns my friends would choose!

So, it was actually pretty entertaining reading what my friends thought I would find "overwhelming"... and it was a tough choice picking the one I thought fit best. Let's zoom in on that above picture, shall we?

I was awestruck!

See, the thing about this game is, you know, if your friends could just write down any nouns in the world, it'd be a lot easier, but they could only use what was in their hand! Here's my evaluation:

Thunder & Fireworks: nice tries, but they don't seem too personal
Musicals: very overwhelming because they are a TON of work
First Day of School: getting back into the swing of things and working with the new freshmen IS pretty crazy
E-mail: yeah, I pretty much can't even think of replying to all of the emails I get
Rolling the Car: as a survivor of that, it couldn't be more appropriate!
Marriage: man, my friends really know me :)

So, which would YOU think that I'd pick? Highlight the blue space below to find out what I chose!

I chose E-mail, actually, just because I can't ever catch up! But they were all good nouns!
